I understand that what I say is supposed to be confidential.  What does that mean?

Confidentiality is the maintenance of full and honest disclosure between lawyers and their clients. Confidentiality allows clients to freely discuss intimate details without the fear that the information could be subsequently disclosed to another. It protects certain communication between a lawyer and the client from being disclosed without the permission of the client. However, disclosure of information that is already within the public domain does not breach the duty of confidentiality. 

A lawyer at all times shall hold in strict confidence all information concerning the business and affairs of the client acquired in the course of the professional relationship and shall not divulge any such information unless expressly or impliedly authorized by the client or required by law to do so.
