Haig DeRusha
I thoroughly enjoy my work. I relish the opportunity to engage in the process of resolving conflict. My first approach is negotiation, collaborative discussions, mediation, and if necessary, litigation. If litigation is required, I pride myself on my advocacy and courtroom skills. However, that is the last resort for resolving conflict and sometimes is necessary.
I have been a lawyer over 25 years. With this accumulation of experience, years of conflict law, including family, civil litigation, criminal law, estate litigation and have been in front of numerous tribunals and disciplinary boards, there are not many new cases that I receive in which I have not had some related experience. I am Family Law Specialist designated by the Law Society of Upper Canada (Ontario). There are only five such designations in the Peel and Halton Region. As a Dispute Resolution Officer appointed by Superior Court, I preside at conferences and mediation processes before the Superior Court in Brampton.
I have presented at many events and programs. I have taught at the Bar Admission Program for lawyers in Ontario in the areas of advocacy, professional responsibly, criminal procedure, and I marked the family law exams. I belong to many organizations and professional groups, including an executive on the Peel Criminal Lawyers Association.
I have attended many developmental programs, including Canadian Bar Association Conferences (from St. John’s, Newfoundland, to Vancouver, British Columbia). I am the most senior lawyer at DeRusha Law Firm.
I practice karate and hold the rank of black belt. I have been involved in numerous coaching positions including hockey. I am also active in organizations such as the Royal Canadian Legion.
